Meeting during common hour for R&P is unnecessary and takes away valuable opportunities for conservatory students. It is only important for students to complete shop hours, a crew assignment, attend shows, and receive announcements, which can be organized and communicated online. I am currently drafting a formal proposal to the department head detailing how shop hours and crew assignments can be managed digitally. Several faculty members have reached out to discuss the logistics of this transition and I am preparing a list of student concerns to present at our next meeting.

The administration has acknowledged the volume of interest regarding our proposal for R and P. I am currently preparing the formal briefing documents for the department chair to review during our upcoming consultation.

Having gone through R&P for three and a half years, I definitely agree that it can be done online. Performance days and certain guest speakers are the only reasons most students want to show up at all.
With Wednesday noon being common hour. I feel as though the theatre and dance students are missing out on student activities and programs, as well as missing a prime opportunity to engage and interact with main campus students.
The class isn't relevant for dancers, since it's only theatre annoucements that can be posted online. Meeting once a week on top of shop hours, performances, rehearsals, and all the rest of our classes is excessive, especially during common hour (a time the university clears for common courtesy)
It is considered a waste to drive over for just one credit when a simple calendar would be posted online. Maybe like if you want to keep performance days, use them as a grade or for the final.
This class has an insane amount of work and meeting once a week plus all of the required work for 1 credit is a lot. The rest of the university has this off in order to have new opportunity and we are unable to seek this opportunity for a class that could be handled online.

i agree 100% with these statements and there is no reason why r&p can't be a monthly(or so) gathering of the department to discuss incoming dates of things and such

I've always thought that this class in its entirety was a waste. We are paying for a credit hour to do A LOT of free work for the department. A few hundred students all required to work for 16 or so hours in a shop, AND do a production assignment? Nah, they're literally just getting free labor, or rather we are paying them to do work for them that they could pay shop assistants or hire new part time faculty.
