i don't understand why this one section is not quiet. New families are raising children in this neighborhood & they need their quiet sleep.

We live on Vitra Pl, between S St Mary's & S Presa, which is right up against the train tracks. It is a short block, that used to have 2 crossings, so trains would honk pretty much the whole street long and more. My children, upon hearing the bells of the gate lowering, would run screaming in terror at the oncoming loudness. Our house shakes, the horn honking goes right through your body. Now that we have a more-quiet zone (The trains still honk on occasion) I can see them children sleep through passing trains, rather than toss & turn in their sleep. I can read bedtime stories uninterrupted. I also have a student (I teach night classes for adults) who is a retired train engineer. He is deaf as a result of this job. Ge tells me many drivers are not crazy about honking too much either. This is a health and quality of life issue. Our city is practically terrorized by these trains. Students were interrupted at school, at home and more. Things have changed drastically in the past decades. Old timers recall maybe 20 trains a day. Now they are bigger, longer and there are 70-100 per day. This certainly impacts everyone's life. It is high time we made San Antonio downtown (and beyond) a Quiet Zone.

I live at the northeast corner of King William. Because our prevailing breezes come from the Southeast, we constantly hear these train horns. Moreover, many of our B&B guests are very disturbed by the train horns and it is damaging to our business as well as our personal lives. Please end this obnoxious noise !!!
