The aim of this petition is to re-open the Quay's playground; I am raising it in the spirit of healthy, outdoor play for children and to improve facilities for local parents.

The original plan for the Kensington Quays development in Lytham included a play-area for young children and it was also an obligation of Kensington Developments to provide it in order that they received planning approval.  Sadly it was closed after a minority of residents objected to the playground and the subsequent noise of young children playing, despite the fact that the playground had been on the original plans.

It is now a considerable distance to another play-area (a minimum of a 15 minute walk) and not an easy option for parents of young children.
I am a resident and parent on the Quays.  I have been in contact with Fylde Borough Council who are supportive of this new petition.  An application was made last year to landscape the fenced-off playground and this was refused by the Council.  Whether a parent or not, please respect the original plan and do the "right thing" for local children.

Updates

July 4, 2011

I have been reviewing the original planning documents this week to prepare for my next conversation with the council. It is clear that the space was intended for community use and I am determined to hold the developers to that initial commitment. Thank you for keeping this goal in mind as we advocate for the children who live here.

Reaching this level of support confirms that our neighborhood values the importance of accessible play spaces for our children. It is heartening to see so many people acknowledge that the original promises made to this community should be honored.

Total disgrace. If it was in the plans when we bought the houses then it needs to stay. Stop catering to the grumpy few.

My kids miss this place so much. It is so hard to walk them all the way to the other one with all the gear. Just open it up.

Some people have nothing better to do than complain about kids playing outside. Shame on them.

Need this open asap. Summer is coming and we have nowhere for the little ones to run around close to home.

The noise of children playing is hardly a crime. Let them be kids.

Ridiculous to close it. We moved here for the amenities and it was part of the original plan!! Give the kids their space back.
