Mr. Atef Abdel Hamid,
With all respect and appreciation to the efforts being made by your ministry to improve the state of the country during these difficult times; we, Egyptians, ask you to consider our suggestions regarding the state and quality of the public transportation in Egypt.
There are many problems with the current subway stations, if there is any, that it is unbearable to sit and wait in for the metro to come; that already serves very few areas in Cairo and becomes impossible on commuters to reach destinations on time. This leads to the pressure on buying private vehicles and their usage which causes immense traffic in the streets. There is unsufficient number of buses to satisfy the working class needs and the scene of these passengers in the minibuses or the large ones becomes appalling to humanity. Also the rural urban networks do not cover all cities in Egypt so people are forced to find alternatives.
Our suggestions include increasing number of bus routes to reach most neighborhoods in Egypt, improve the urban rural networks for trains and fund raising to buy new metro cars.
This will bring more money to the Egyptian economy and will cut down on the gas use which will help in decreasing the pollution rate in Egypt.
AND our role as part of the community, we will make a campaign to encourage Egyptians to use public transportation.

Thank you for your patience in reading this petition and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Sincerely,
Mariam Badr and all others signing the petition

May 3, 2011

Atef Abdel Hamid continues to ignore the miserable conditions we face every single day while we pack into decrepit buses like cargo. I am done waiting for their empty promises so I am taking our demands directly to the ministry offices next week to force a response.

PLEASE fix the buses. Trying to get to university is impossible and the crowding is just dangerous.

The rural areas are completely forgotten. We need trains that actually run on time.

It is really embarrassing how bad the conditions are. Do something about it already.

Cairo streets are way too full. If the public transport was decent nobody would bother driving their own cars.

Buses are falling apart and never come. FIX IT.

The metro is a nightmare during rush hour. It is time for some serious upgrades so people can actually get to work on time.
