You really need people familiar with the area directing troopers, FDs and EMS. There are too many "dead spots" in radio coverage to have just two dispatch centers!

This seems to be a very unnecesary measure to save money for the state. It is at the expense of having this important social service carried our by caring professionals who have taken the time to build vibrant relationships with those in the community who are in dire need.
This idea of closing 2 PSAPS is INSANE!! To think that have 2 PSAPS pick up the work of 2 more PSAPS is crazy, all of the PSAPS are dispatching multiple agencies(20-30 or more) to think that this will not impact service is wrong. Right now, if all the operators are busy in one PSAP, it rolls to another one is definitely going to delay the response. The folks that agree with this need to go sit in a PSAP during a snowstorm and see how much work they do and how well they do it!! I know as a first responder, I have had to wait many times for a response on the radio because the dispatcher was answering another phone call or dispatching another agency or agencies in many cases. Instead of closing PSAPS, they should be adding more to reduce the workload and IMPROVE response times and not delaying it. I hope all you folks that voted for SHUMLIN are happy now!!

The system is working very well @ this time - local trained dispatchers are needed, not people who don't know the individual areas!!

Not good! How can someone answering from 75 miles away have any clue about what's available locally. Please do not do this; public safety will suffer not to mention the loss if jobs.

Please leave the 911 system alone. It works and peoples lives depend on it. Make your budget cuts elsewhere, like government salaries, maybe?

Not a good idea to close the 911 call center. if disaster strikes an area the other areas can pick up the slack. There needs to be a lot or planning and scenarios run before something like this could even be contemplated. I do not like this idea at all. I realize you are trying to make cuts but this is not the place. Our safety is worth more than that.

What a ludicrous notion that all of Vermont could adequately be served by just 2 Answering Points in the entire state! Why is it that everytime there needs to be budget cuts made, those cuts seem to strike at the very heart of those most in need of essential services? In my humble opinion, the average homemaker could make better decisions with regard to budget decsions than some I have seen emanate from Montpelier in recent years. Need more money to support these vital services? Consider raising the tax on cigarettes, other tobacco products and alcohol. Please do not close our PSAPs!

We in the Northeast Kingdom very highly respect and, indeed, depend on the VSP who use the Derby barracks. Please find ways to save money elsewhere!
