I worked in a public service occupation myself. If you accept a public service job and the pay that goes with it, you make a commitment to treat all members of the public with equal respect and level of service even if their values conflict with your own. The fact that nobody is requiring that standard of this officer is a blot on your entire organization. Please grow up, all of you, and behave like real public servants.

Public officials that earn their keep from taxpayers (many whom are gay, lesbian, or whatever) are the true abominations. A person with this attitude and power equals a bad mix for one's community!!!

This so-called "office fo the law" takes an oath to protect and serve ALL of the Citizens of Jackson County, the State of Oregon and the of the USA. This statement of his that he will base how he does his job on his religious views, not on the law, makes me quite nervous. I am Jewish, and I wonder if he would also consider me a Jew to be beyond the protection of the law , since I am not a Christian? This man needs to find a job elsewhere, as quickly as possible, and Not in law enforcement.

This is an outrage. It is here, in Jackson County Oregon.
The officer is entitled to his religious belief. However, it is completely inappropriate and threatening to thousands of our law abiding citizens. His public comments, as a law enforcement officer, threaten thousands of our law abiding LGBTQ citizens who help pay this man's wages.
More importantly, they strike fear into the hearts of those he calls an abomination. Sounds much like Adolph Hitler and his Nazi's rhetoric about our Jewish brothers and sisters in Berlin in the late 1930's and early through the mid 1940's.
If you are, or theoretically were, a member of this targeted group, would you feel safe had you or your property been attacked, due to your perceived sexual orientation, as I have, calling the issue in, knowing this man might be the one to show up at your door to take the report?
I think not. This officer should be suspended and the three County Superviidors severely rebuked, even recalled for not expressing their outrage. Certainly NOT to be re-elected in the upcoming election.
Please, lovers of justice, SIGN this petition, and seriously consider making comments about this travesty.

This officers beliefs, stated publicly in the Mail Tribune, is the real abomination at this time in what will be history. It sends a chill thru our own sexual minorites communities, that they will not be treated fairly under the law. The Binle has nothing to do with it. The deputy is entitled to his religious beliefs, but wisdom dictates that he not speak publicly about law abiding citizens, in our community that I stills KKK kind of fear among that population.

No one wo is employed by the County govenrnment should ever discriminate against anyone for their sexaul discrimination. My church was the first chrch to openly welcome the gay community and that was in the early 1990's.
