I am hopeful that leadership in Jackson County will make it clear that personal bias is not acceptable in the performance of individuals jobs, especially those charged with upholding public safety.

Sad to see this, but also not surprised. This is yet another example of why I moved to Portland. Ashland is the most redeeming quality of Southern Oregon.

It is sad in today's day and age that we are still having this discussion. While the officer certainly has the right to believe anything he desires, most citizens are sick and tired of people using the bible the justify the validity of their thinking like its gospel to everyone. Hear this, we all don't believe in your religion, and will not be governed by its teachings. Each of us has the right to believe what we want.
What we will be governed by is the United States Constitution. And since marriage is sanctioned by our government, a little thing called the Equal Protection Clause applies. It's as simple as that. And it's exactly the legal point that has allowed all the misguided, junenvile, puritanical and just plain wrong bans on gay marriage all across this country. It's over, just accept it-and accept other people already.
