there needs to be a ramp there, I've fished from the bank WAY before there was any development there.

I totally support this, but would like to preserve the wooded areas near the water & have enforcement of anti-litter laws in all areas near the water.

There are a few options to get this done. I have found 5 acres right on the reservoir owned by the county. We should be able to pass something to get the county to either put a ramp in for County Residents only, or perhaps offer enough land to DGIF to put a ramp in for everyone. Then the lake will also become part of the public stocking programs. The other options are two lots of private land that are on the lake where we may be able to coax the owners to donate the land or perhaps raise the funds to purchase it. I believe that if necessary we could get enough sportsman together to do this with private funding then donate the land to DGIF! I would like to go beyond a petition and begin a "Chesterfield Sportsmans Club" which would have as it's purpose to secure access to many of the local ponds which abutt public roads and should have public access. With the exception of Dutch Gap and Swift Creek Lake in the State Park, there is no public access to the many lakes and ponds in our County. Even Chesdin has no free public access unless you drive around the lake into Dinwiddie. I have a meeting place available and am willing to work to get this together.

As a long time resident of the Birkdale Community, I believe there should definitely be a public boat access point on Swift Creek Reservoir.

I have fished Swift Creek Reservoir since 1970. We had several places we could launch jon boats and conoes. We could also fish off the causeway on Woolridge Rd. Now that is all gone. I reside on Otterdale Rd and can't fish a lake 3 minutes away.

If it is taxpayer supported and stocked with taxpayer investment, then it should be accessible by all taxpayers in the area. Surrounding it with land that no one bothered to allow public access is a county failure and something the county should fix.

If a public boat landing is out of the question then there are enough boat landings access already around the reservoir at brandermill/woodlake..

As a life-long resident of Chesterfield, I have watched as private development, with county government support, has squeezed all the other residents out of this water resource, funded by all county residents.
