An early morning kayak paddle on Swift Creek Resevoir would be grand. It's interesting that the county paid to clear the land and flood 1600 acres to provide a drinking water source. A private lake with an essential public use. Except no public use allowed.

Thank you for taking the lead on this important issue. I can't believe there isn't anything the Board of Supervisors can do to create more public access to this publicly supported lake. I gave up trying to fish it years ago ... no safe place to fish. I will be letting my fishing buddies know about the petition.

Josh - great idea. I have fished the reservoir with friends that lived in Woodlake, but I don't have access since they moved. I've been a Chesterfield resident for over 20 years, but have to drive to Amelia Lake or further to fish now with a quality body of water only 10 mins away; one my tax dollars help support.

It really wouldn't take much of an effort or expense to allow access by the public taxpayers and would enhance the quality of life for more citizens of the county.

Either the neighborhoods that can enjoy the reservoir start ponying up the money to maintain it or it should have public access. We don't want to take access away from those that currently use the water, but it's terribly selfish to expect to have sole use of such a large natural resource without paying anything for it. Small feesmcan be charged to let Chesterfield residents buy "licenses" to use the lake. This could also ensure that they follow the rules.

I know of many Brandermill residents in favor of it too. It's the HOA that is the problem.

Obviously if we get a boat ramp it would be our responsibility as citizens to keep it clean. In fact I would recommend that the very people pushing for access should see to it that we never allow that access to be a detriment to the lake.

There is a meeting for people interested in fighting for public access to Swift Creek Reservoir at 9:00am at Manchester Baptist Church, 9515 Winterpock Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23832. We will be looking for ideas and perhaps looking to start a non-profit called the Chesterfield Sportsmans Society in order to lobby on behalf of sportsmen throughout the county.

The fact that I pay chesterfield taxes and pay for the water coming out of that lake, makes me sick that I can't take my 3 year old over on my jon boat and fish. It's rediculous that I live across the street from the lake and because I didn't buy a house in woodlake or brandermill. It's very irritating. There should be a public boat ramp. It's a water source for more than just brandermill and woodlake. My tax money pays for it also. I should be able to put my jon boat out and take my son fishing!

if it is not usable by me as a tax payer but some tax payers can use it just because they live on it, that is discrimination either way you look at it. if we the taxpayers are not allowed to utilize the resource then we the taxpayers should not have to pay taxes on the water that comes from its location for all of its sources...
