As a pensioner, I would find it difficult to make many trips to York Art gallery, though previously I have been a regular visitor.

Existing valid York Card holders who bought their cards in good faith should have free access to the gallery until their cards expire. Thereafter a moninal charge of 50p per visit for residents should be made. I would also like to see weekly attendance figures published in The Press just to see what impact charges are having.

I believe that the New Art Gallery should be FREE to York residents on production of the York Card.Especially for Senior Citizens like me and my wife.

Access to culture should not be restricted to the better off. York Art Gallery is a public gallery and I cannot believe those who made bequests thought the people of York would ever be charged admission. I understand the funding shortages but other institutions have found imaginative ways to raise funds and so should the trust. As the barest minimum there must be recognition of residents' council tax contributions and the usual concessions for single visit tickets. Is the gallery now only for tourists and wealthy residents?

YMT is contravening it's lease and possibly the terms of bequest by charging residents.

There should be no charge to York Card holders. As a National Trust, English Heritage and Castle Howard card holder I think I;ve done enough financially to support our heritage. There isn't a cat in hell's chance I'll fork out to visit my local art gallery. To be honest from glimpses of what I've seen at the art gallery there's not much worth seeing.

I think york residents should be able to visit the gallery every day for 5 minutes to view their favourite picture.if they want to, without paying extra.

This is absolutely discusting. all York residents should have free acess to the gallery and surrounding museums. If these facilities decide to charge there will be a decline in people attending who live in the York.area. They will just have rely on the tourist industry, and so once again the people of York, whose council tax helps to keep these going will miss out.

I can see why they need to make a charge but think £4 would be better so people aren't put off visiting. However residents should still get in free. We spend money when there and encourage our visitors to go so this will be their loss.

Chaing for entry simply leads to a spiral of decline whereby most low and middle income people are barred from access and 'art' becomes a toy of the rich, with prices continually raised to compensate for the loss of usage.

Why should art be accessible only to those who can afford it. If we have artistic gifts we should be able to extend them without finance

So something that was relatively conservative and uninteresting has been transformed, with taxpayers' money, into something that *might* be really interesting. As long as they charge us for entry, I'll never know.

Being deprived of money should never deprive one of art.
