HELP US TO CREATE ACCESSIBLE ART TO 'ALL' PEOPLE IN 'ALL' DIFFERENT FINANCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES BY VOTING AGAINST 'OUR' YORK PUBLIC ART GALLERY CHARGING US FOR ACCESS .
I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you believe that art should be for everyone. If you have a moment today please get the word out so we can cross that thousand mark and really show them how many people care.

I have been reading through your stories about what this gallery means to your families and it is truly moving to see how much art matters to everyone. My inbox is full of messages about why the cost of entry is keeping people away and I feel honored to be helping collect these thoughts. This is all down to the community that has formed around this goal rather than anything I have done personally.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you agree that our gallery should be open to everyone. If you have a moment today please send the link to a few friends so we can hit that first hundred mark together.

the gallery is a cultural institution for the people of York and should be free, or it risks becoming elitist and marginalising those it is intended to benefit. The Tate, National etc. are all free, this strengthens the North/South divide perception

As a York family we are disappointed at the proposed charge for the Art Gallery. We visit York museums on a regular basis and find it important to stimulate and educate our children through these visits. Please don't rob our children of this free education.

As a York resident I often go into the Art Gallery for a short visit. If there were charges, I would not do this.
Anyway, I believe that local people should be encouraged to visit, not discouraged. If there are charges, tourists will visit but not locals.

Went to Kelvingrove art gallery (Glasgow) yesterday. The gallery was full of people having fun and putting money into the donation boxes. You can pay as much, or as little as you can afford, or not at all. But cost will not debar you from the galllery.

Many of the works in this collection were given to the gallery so that they could be be seen by all of the the people of York rather than the wealthy few. It might be worth investigating if the decision to levy charges contradicts the legal terms of the bequests.

I remember when the York Art Gallery charged £2 for admission. I was often alone when I visited. When charge was removed the galleries were very popular. I think this experience will be repeated again and I deplore any charge at any Art Gallery.
