the art gallery is a stimulating place for creative children with active imaginations if a fee is added less children and bigger families are less likely to attend .Art and creativity should be provided but a small charge should be asked for to cover the costs of materials. It is amazing to see children produce something however small or by being part of a group. York children should get in free and parents would gladly pay a couple of pounds I'm sure!

As an ex resident of York I find this totally ludicrous and it will be counter productive in the long run. Access to the Arts should be free for all.

We have to fight for our access to galleries and libraries in this horrible climate of cuts and more cuts.

Public art should be paid for from the public purse. Make art easy for people to enjoy, it should be a right.

It would be nice if it was like the NRM voluntary donations or a £2/£3 entry fee for York residents at least!

I grew up in York and having free access to the Art Gallery was an important part of that experience. I think it's terribly divisive in all the very worst ways to charge the people of a city to visit their own collections. The message is 'you're too poor for high culture'- it's heinous really.

The entry charge would exclude so many from enjoying what already belongs to them.

Everyone should have access to this wealth of art, not just those who can afford it. It is also important to show children art early on and it becomes completly unaffordable for families :(

Art can be and should be appreciated by all - not just those with the money to do so. Why can't there be free entrance like many other museums around the UK.

Arts and museums shouldn't be kept for just the wealthy and the tourists. I think this idea is outrageous.

It should at the very least free with a Visit York card. York residents should not have to pay.

Outrageous, elitist, thoughtless.
In these difficult times many families will simply be unable to find the admission fee. Civilization is fragile, this kind of corporate behavior is unacceptable. A number of the exhibits were given to the people of York, all of the people.

£7.50 is too much if you just want to spend a half-hour or so in there.
