With many people still facing financial hardship in today's economic climate, the simple joy of Art and the plethora of emotions it brings forth should be available to EVERYONE. Irrespective of gender, race or financial standing.

The art gallery should not charge for entry, Leeds and the Yorhshire Sculpture park do not. It should not be elitist.

The refurbished gallery should at least have free admission for York residents most of the time but it would be best if it was free to everybody with a nice cafe aand shop providing revenue along with special funded events.

It seems totally wrong that what was created as a public place (of innocent enjoyment and instruction) should cease to be within the reach of-the public.

Totally against museum charges as it will most definitely deter a lot of people and their children from enjoying art and culture. Many of us just pop in when we are in town. Will we do that at £7.50 a time? Yorkcard at £5 should give free access to residents at least.

The art gallery will not be used nearly as much as many local residents went in regularly, but will not do this if they have to pay each time. It's feasible that this could actually lead to a loss in sales revenue (particularly from the shop).

Museums and art galleries are an educational resource for everybody, and, as far as I know, the contents (and buildings) belong to us

It is vital that York residents and visitors should have free access to our publicly owned Art Collections .Should we not wait to see how many more visitors this new Gallery attracts before deciding to charge. They may find the number who use cafe .do workshops, and buy from shop etc will be many more than in past especially if it is free to enter Maybe charge If people want to visit touring exhibitions as other galleries do but not for permanent collection.

Art should be free to view. The old gallery made money from sales of cards, etc and the cafe. Why did that have to charge?
