Charging is a sure fire way to stop locals and visitors in their tracks. If I have to pay, I WILL NOT be visiting. It's a shame you've spent all this time and money renovating only to discourage people from stepping through the door. Maybe you should look at the London galleries who don't charge and entry fee other than to special exhibitions?

I used to pop into the gallery regularly but at the new cost that would make me think twice.

Art should be freely available to all in a public gallery. It has no relevance unless it can be experienced first hand by everybody. Charging entrance will put a stop to visits by poorer individuals and families. That defeats the object of public galleries.

A real disgrace that the gallery is asking to charge an entry fee.

Fine. Bring in a charge, but why charge local residents as well?? Surely the gallery cauldron similarly to York Minster! We are not a wealthy family; my children LIVE for the museums and have been waiting patiently for the gallery to reopen, but there's no way we can pay for access to these each year. It is outrageous that locals would be denied access to a civic gallery whose revamp undoubtedly include local funding!!

Dreadful decision to charge. Disgraceful to make it £7.50. I had put it in my diary to go for the re-opening. Not anymore.

At least for residents. The Minster has to charge but it is at least free to residents.

While appreciating increasing derogation of duty re public funding by National Government, this charge is prohibitive, & should be eg £3 for res & £5 for visitors, max (though I do feel that it should be free - as in other cities - as petitioned here.)

Applying a charge for entry will make the gallery a venue only for tourists. It turns it from a local resource that can be used regularly to one that is only used on special occasions and turns (publicly funded) art into something exclusive rather than inclusive.

After receiving £millions in lottery funding and annual dowry from CoYC since forming the Trust to achieve sustainability it would be so regressive for the Gallery to now revert to being an art collection for the privileged.

This art is the property of the people and should not be the preserve of the well off!
