The charge is far, far too high. I've no idea who came up with that figure but it's quite apparent that they don't possess business acumen or marketing skills. Almost like the group of individuals who thought it a great idea to close Lendal Bridge.

I can't believe they are going to start charging. We are a very low income based family living in York and my two buys have been rather excited to see the art once the new gallery is open, sadly they now wont be able to. What is the point in residents paying for the York Card if we cant actually take any benefit in the City we live in.

Art should be easily accessible to all - not just a luxury for tourists.

York residents should be allowed in free. We pay a premium as it is for living in York with uber expensive car parking charges.

I don't mind paying a nominal fee £1 - £2 for a resident, but the entrance charge has put it off limits.

Make York cards photo cards so they can't be shared with family/friends and so reduce the number of people getting free entry unfairly. Keep York cards at £3 & restrict to 2 entries per year but let people choose when they go.

In hard times, art offers people a chance of hope and joy even on the grimmest day. How could you put a price on this.

Ridiculous that there has to even be a petition for this kind of thing. Councils and governments need to clean up their acts.

York needs to keep its cultural heritage and not see it signed away so that only the richer and better off people can enjoy it. Art for arts sake, not for the wealthy's!

The proposed charges will deter most visitors from visiting the gallery

Access to museums and art is an essential part of education and of cultural awareness. It should not be exclusively for the wealthy, but for all.

York is the second most visited city in the UK after London. We should be welcoming the tourists, showing off the Hockneys and helping our young people appreciate art.

Art should not be held purely in the hands of cultural elites. If art isn't open to all it will be to the detriment of everyone in society.

The renovations were funded by donors at the understanding a charge wouldn't be imposed. This is just another tax on the people who live in our wonderful city.
