The board officially agreed to schedule the seminar and host a new vote on the health insurance co-pays. I am relieved that we finally have the chance to address the confusion surrounding the original decision. Thank you for standing with me to protect what we earned for our families.

The below members of the Jersey City Police Superior Officers Association hereby request the President and Executive Board of the Jersey City Police Superior Officers Association (hereinafter the “PSOA”) to schedule an information seminar and re-convene a new vote on the issue as to whether the PSOA should open its current collective bargaining agreement with the City of Jersey City on the issue of increased co-pays for health insurance from $20 to $30 for doctors visits and $100 to $125 for emergency room visits. Certain members of the Jersey City PSOA feel that there were aspects of the vote that were misunderstood or unclear and as a matter of equity would like further review of this topic of revote. Please note that there is an online petition to support this request on www.ipetitions.com tagged help PSOA reconsider the Co-pay vote that will provide public anonymity while allowing your voice to be heard.

Seeing this level of support confirms that so many of us feel left in the dark about these rising costs. The momentum shows leadership that we deserve clear answers and a fair chance to reconsider this decision.

It is my understanding that the POBA has submitted a counter offer to the city. Before we attempt a revote, I believe we should have an informational meeting with the union attorney to educate us on our rights moving forward one way or another and explore the option of a counteroffer if there is one so we can all make the most informed decisions moving forward.

I don’t know where a stand for demotions but I will tell you we all work very hard to get promoted and I support my friends if they are on the block. We have it good and giving the circumstances it’s a small give back. I almost got demoted in 2009 and it wasn’t a pretty feeling. We also need promotions. I’m not on any list but there are some good people waited a long time. We all know 1 question wrong here or there shouldn’t effect someone’s career. Good luck my friends.

Just to clarify, I am not saying I am against a revote if it is the best option for all. I certainly do not want to get demoted and would love to see more eventual promotions. However, there is a lot of contradictory information being spread around and before we commit to anything I think we should be better informed on what is true or not and what the risks/rewards are of whatever decisions are made.

What the POBA did was EXACTLY what our union leadership should have done in the interest of its members. There was only bullying. I agree the union attorney should be brought to a meeting. I also agree I would likely ok this if it weren't presented as a "take it or leave it" with no promises of ever doing this again. We need to be informed absolutely. Further, I believe putting up this petition was demeaning to us as a whole body and made us look very weak and divided. In any election the majority wins and the day goes on.

Can we do it like the NHL. 2 home votes then 2 away votes (preferably AC) the 1 and 1 leading up to a final vote 7

Not the time to fight a battle we can't win. The loss would be too great.
