I live up the road from the bay and can hear the racing way up the hill, that’s how disruptive it is.
And it’s not just at night. When I take my dog to the wardropper dog park in the evening she is often startled by motorcycles revving engines up the hill past departure bay school.
People just aren’t being respectful about this being a residential neighbourhood!

This something that should be implemented everywhere, to facilitate safe passage for all forms of transportation. Personal motor vehicles should no longer be the default, as that is responsible for a major cause of preventable death and injury in people under age 55.

I agree it's far too easy to speed along this stretch of road. Speed humps or raised crosswalks may help.

The fear of crossing the road here, particularly with kids, is SO real. Even if you do get to park your car beachside, trying to get out is insane because of how fast vehicles go on that road. It’s a congested area, and proper safety measures for the amount of people and businesses, activities (water park, beach, baseball fields, etc) in the area, have not been considered thoroughly enough.

I was the one hit near beach estates, I moved here 3 months prior to the incident. I am scared for my 4 year olds life here in Nanaimo. The tragic is scary ASF!

We live in the area. My kids love to ride their bikes down to the beach. It’s become increasingly dangerous over the years with people speeding and simply not paying attention. Same can be said along the departure bay school stretch. The amount of speeders during school hours is atrocious. They don’t even care about the speed bump at the crosswalk-they fly right over it. Something has to be done

I no longer enjoy living in Nanaimo. I live between Metral Dr and Island Highway, so many obnoxiously loud and speeding vehicles all night long. No police presence. Certainty no consequences.

I live on Reynolds road, about 1 km away. This drag racing has been interupting my sleep and increasing my anxiety. Why does the city not enforce speed limits and encourage neighborly respect?

These people race from Rock City all the way along Departure Bay to Hammond Bay or the Departure Bay Beach. They know there will be never be police to stop them. That's why police presence needs to increase.
The residents of Departure Bay have the right to peace and quiet.
