I have lived in neighborhood for 20+ years…this year has been ridiculous
Why not put in speed bump control seems to work in other areas of city. No way half the cars heading up from beach are doing the posted speed limit through the playground zone.

Maybe we need a dedicated speedway for this kind of thing somewhere else ,far away? Otherwise it’s just illegal

My kids are there all the time. We witnessed an accident at the crosswalk last year and the driver took off. I am not sure if the man that was hit survived. I think about it every time I hear the races in the beach.

The motorcycles and lowrider cars around departure bay road are so awful. The only thing worse is the teenage boys attitudes who drive them. Zero lack of respect for the community. Often speeding at high speeds down the road doing wheelies over the crosswalks, fights and large groups at the subway, garbage everywhere. I’ve seen multiple elderly neighbours trying to use the crosswalks when a motorcycle flies by and then they are sworn at and given the finger. At late hours constantly.

Given the pattern of risk along Departure Bay Road adjacent to the beach, it's reasonable to designate this corridor as a 30 km/h zone.

I live in departure Bay and I find it very scary walking down by the beach there needs to be raised sidewalks 100%

The majority must not be held at ransom by the few. Breathalizers and stiff tickets might be a start.

It's crucial to me that change occurs after my near-miss experience in the departure bay crosswalk, where a speeding n driver nearly collided with me, highlighting the urgent need for safer roads.

I am 3 blocks up from the beach but I can still hear the late night racing of vehicles. The whole harbour area is like an echo chamber and especially the motor bikes are terrible. Our neighbourhood is so beautiful, with so much potential but the city council is dismantling it piece by piece with their inaction and rezoning.

There is a Preschool and a kids play park at the bottom of a hill that people drive down at ridiculous speeds. Then they speed up to the next crosswalk then the next. It's extremely dangerous with the busy beach and coffee shop, something needs to be done! There has been enough accidents.

This is the third person hit on crosswalks in the past few years something needs to be done to slow traffic at departure bay beach

Too many pedestrian involved accidents; many children come to the playground and beach from surrounding areas.

Such a beautiful place...one of Nanaimo's gems...becoming so dangerous with higher traffic volume and speeding. 😞

Departure Bay rd is not a race track. Grow up people.
