The spectacular "Wonderful Barn" in Leixlip Co Kildare is steeped in history and should be protected as a national monument. Plans to build 450 houses at the site are quite frankly outrageous and unacceptable. Wouldn't it be better for the local community and the country in general if it was developed into a tourist attraction in conjunction with other local landmarks such as Castletown house and Connolly's Folly?

Reaching this level of support has been a long and exhausting road that I honestly did not think we would travel. I am tired of the lack of answers from the developers but seeing this momentum gives me the resolve to keep pushing forward.

Need to keep this land housing free. The effect on the animal life would it it were to go would be huge
The folly is a reminder of the power of creative thinking to solve a problem. Employing local people to build this structure kept people in employment and left a visually powerful legacy for the community. It's a unique and interesting structure built out of philanthropic spirit in a time of need and to redevelop the area for housing debases the intentions of the creator and devalues the labor of the men who built it.
Leixlip wldnt be the same without the wonderful barn, I loved going for walks up there as a child and now when I'm home I love taking my children up, even as kids they get the beauty of the place.
Normally I'm all for progress, but the Barn is a highly significant local landmark, and is a great part of Leixlip's history. While it may not make many tourist maps, in the early 1990's I was asked for directions to it by a group of French tourists. I am of the opinion that the construction of so many houses in the vicinity may cause irreparable damage to this unique structure, which is already in a fragile state.
This area serves the community better as a green area, especially when there are so few parks available locally! The Wonderful Barn and the surrounds should be saved!
100The per cent agree barn and surrounding area needs protection and further investment as its a great asset to the surrounding area its a space that's currently used by many walkers and gardeners ..ah great place to bring kids to show them flowers birds bees etc

Ridiculous choice of site for a new housing development!!! It should be zoned as historical and a communal amenities area for the people if leixlip and beyond.
