We are homeowners, families, and residents of a newly developed neighborhood in Josephine, TX, managed by a Homeowners Association within Collin County of the DFW area, and we are standing together to stop Exxon from building an unnecessary gas station directly in our community.

Josephine is a small but growing town, and we understand that development is part of that growth. People move here for the space, the peace, and the slower pace of country living. Surrounded by fresh farmland, open fields, and the sounds of cattle. It's a place where families can breathe clean air and enjoy a simpler way of life. But growth should serve the people who live here, not put our health, safety, and quality of life at risk.

A third gas station. In a town that barely has enough traffic for the first two. We already have two gas stations within a mile of each other—that’s more than enough for a town of fewer than 18,000 residents. Yet now, Exxon wants to add a third gas station in our neighborhood, not because we need it, but because corporate profits outweigh the long-term environmental risks to our community.

Without warning a sign was suddenly placed within our community "Exxon Sonic Coming Soon." No community meetings. No public discussions, no outreach to the residents who will be directly impacted. No transparency—just a decision made by our local leaders without considering the people who live here. Exxon decided to make its plans known in the most impersonal way possible—a roadside sign announcing its arrival, as if the decision had already been made.

And this isn’t just happening in Josephine. Across the country, communities like ours are being forced to accept developments that don’t serve the people who call these places home.

This isn’t just about stopping one gas station. This is about our right to build communities that work for us—not against us.

Why We Must Say NO

Health & Safety Should Come First
Gas stations aren’t just about convenience. They release toxic fumes into the air—fumes that will bring harm to our children, our elderly, our families, and our animals. Spills and leaks can seep into the ground, poisoning the water we drink and the soil we live on. When big corporations build without thinking, we are left with a lifetime sum of burden to carry for generations to come.

More Traffic, More Danger
Our streets weren’t designed for the heavy congestion that comes with yet another gas station. More cars, more reckless driving, and more risks to pedestrians—especially children and seniors—are not what we signed up for. The safety of our families should never be compromised for corporate profit.

A Waste Burden We Can’t Afford
Our small town already struggles to manage waste. Adding another gas station means more trash, more pollution, and more strain on a system that wasn’t built to handle it. A gas station isn’t just a place to fill up—it becomes a magnet for litter, toxic runoff, and environmental harm.

We Deserve a Better Future
Josephine is a town full of potential, just like so many communities across the country. We need development that truly serves the people—water parks, small businesses, restaurants, grocery stores, and green infrastructure. Places where families can come together, where the local economy can grow, and where we create something impactful and meaningful. A gas station doesn’t do that. It doesn’t build a better future—it just fills corporate pockets.

Protecting Our Homes & Property Values
We chose this town because we believed in what it could be. We didn’t move here to live next to gas pumps, bright lights, and increased noise. Home values drop when big business moves in without considering the needs of the people. If we allow this now, what’s next?

This Fight Is Bigger Than Us

This isn’t just about Josephine. This is about every small town, every growing community, and every city fighting to protect its character, safety, and future.

If we don’t take a stand here, where does it stop?

Today, it’s a gas station in Josephine. Tomorrow, it’s an unnecessary factory in your town. A landfill in your backyard. A highway that cuts through your neighborhood.

We are calling on everyone who believes in better communities—homeowners, families, local leaders, and anyone who values people over corporate interests.
