demand that the Newfoundland Labrador English School District (NLESD)
immediately cancel all bussing contracts with Carey’s Bus Service.
In April 2014 the Parole Board of Canada revoked the pardon of the founder of Carey’s Bus Service, Thomas Carey-convicted child rapist. It has now been shown (Jan. 2015) through an NLESD investigation, that Tom Carey drove a school bus. Even though the so called new directors (his son and daughter) assured the board that their father would have no access to the business. Once again proving to the Southern Shore parents that he continues to hold dominion over the business and decisions surrounding our children. It must end NOW!!
The NLESD represents approximately 67 000 students in NL and as such it is one of the highest authorities in our province which can speak to the safety and welfare of children.
Studies have found that most violent acts committed against children and youth are perpetrated by people who are part of the victim’s immediate environment (United Nations 2006).
The NLESD states that protection and safety of children is their number one priority. We demand that Darrin Pike, CEO of the NLESD stand behind that claim and immediately cancel Carey’s Bus Service contract.

As a parent of young children, I think it is appauling that the school board would deam this acceptable.. Sickening to think this is how little they actually care for our children's well being.
its hard to believe that this contract can't be ended right now. When children are inside a bus to be transported to and from school parents need to feel that their children are safe. That's not what we are hearing with this present service!
The School Board & Trustees are not thinking clearly if they feel that anyone with a criminal record is appropriate to do business with. Associating with any business that has any criminal wrongdoing, let alone a child-rapist, with regards to children and schools is deplorable and should be considered negligent.
I can't believe it's taken this long for a petition for this. I could never really understand why parents and the School Board allowed every child on the southern shore to ride a bus owned by a convicted pedophile.
I don't understand why our government is not concerned with our children's safety. I ask minister Hutchings if he lived on the shore would he be comfortable with his kids on a bus that Thomas Carey could be driving.

Pardon or not a person convicted of any crime against children should never be allowed to be part of thier environment either directly or indirectly and should never be considered as a business option in any case where children are involved. Sickening.
