Ohio wildlife areas in DANGER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The wildlife area in Delaware Ohio has been farmed to the extreme. By my estimations about half of the wildlife area has been placed in crop rotation programs with the last of the true upland hunting fields being taken out last week. This is almost every tillable acre they could get. Please see the red on the map which is in farm programs and the brown which is hardwoods. The ODNR Divison One office states that on this ground they will farm corn, beans, wheat with timothy grass and then leave the timothy grass for three years before the cycle starts over. The next to last picture shows how the great practice works (notice how easy it is to turn back to farm ground). They have even taken the pheasant forever grounds, prairie grass fields, and briar thickets. The entire wildlife area is left barren without habitat. Please check your local wildlife areas as I know they have started similar practices on Big Island, Willard, and Spencer lake wildlife areas. If you do not want farm fields and would like to have true habitat and wildlife in your local wildlife area please call or email the odnr immediately and tell them to stop this process and manage true habitat. 1-800-945-3543 or email [email protected]. The volume of support has provided the necessary leverage to request a formal meeting with ODNR Division One administrators. I am currently drafting a letter outlining the specific habitat loss at Delaware and Big Island to ensure these concerns are officially entered into the public record.

Future of Ohio Trials looks to be fading!! Hate to see this, very nice place to hold AKC Trials. Hope to see this issue corrects so we can continue to come up to Ohio and Trial!
Us rabbit hunters already struggle to find public grounds to run our dogs on. This will basically kill our sport if it continues.
We need to save this wildlife habitat. The cottontail rabbits need this very badly. I know they don't rank up there with the deer, turkeys, and water fowl but are very important to more than you know
Something needs done to save the wildlife areas from turning into more crop land. Countless families enjoy hunting trips. Now where do they go? There is nothing left to hunt except fence rows.
The ODNR is clearly miss appropriating funds again. Our license dollars and tax dollars are for that property to be utilized as wildlife management properties not for agricultural profit. Restoring those agriculture sections will take years of reclaiming not to mention dollars in reclamation efforts. Very poor decisions but the DNR to destroy native habitats for agricultural profits. Very upset Jimmy Johnson
Stop farming the wildlife area. Let them return to habitat that houses small game. Let these areas return to natural state.

Even after speaking with the wildlife biologists who made this decision I continue to respectfully disagree with their decision to mow/farm rotate state wildlife areas. This is detrimental to small game habitat that they are calling "was out of control" and "mismanaged"....no, it was finally getting good and rabbit population was flourishing.
