The "pilot culls" of badgers in Somerset in 2013 have led many people to seriously question the humanity, efficiency and cost of this method of "controlling" bTB, especially as it has been condemned by so many leading and reputable scientists.

This petition calls on Mendip District Council to assist with an alternative strategy which is already working across Wales and in many parts of England.

We, the undersigned, call on Mendip District Council to give financial support to local badger vaccination projects being undertaken and to financially assist other badger vaccination projects which may be set up in the future.

im still reading through all the stories people are leaving in the comments and it just reminds me why we need to push for better solutions in mendip. been doing a lot of reading on vaccine programs in other areas and i think we have a real shot at showing the council that there is a better way forward.

im honestly blown away by how many people are backing this and seeing this kind of momentum is just incredible. its proof that we really want a better way forward for our badgers so thanks for staying with me on this.

I visit the Mendips regularly for walking and would be deterred if I knew the local council preferred unscientific ways to mange local wildlife. I also volunteer at a wildlife charity that takes many badgers from the Mendips and in order to return them home they need to be safe from persecution.

Lived in Mendip most of my life. Have watched badgers since childhood. As a tax payer I strongly urge you not to cull Badgers. The scientific evidence that the cull will not work is overwhelming. Listen to this to give the farmers the correct support that they, the public, badgers and cattle deserve.

Evidence continues to come in showing the futility of culling badgers as an effective method of eradicating bTB. With statistics showing that cage-trapping had to be resorted too then surely it makes sense to vaccinate the badgers, more humane and more cost effective too.

Following the Gloucester and Somerset cull fiascos, failing in efficacy, humaneness and cost effectiveness, this has to make sense. We still get to see badgers on our local patch and a more effective move towards the eradication of bTB is taken.

We expect Mendip District Council to recognise the futility of culling badgers and the serious harm it is doing to local communities. As representatives of these communities the council can support farming and wildlife by vaccinating badgers on council owned and controlled land.

I am a trained volunteer lay vaccinator already vaccinating badgers in West Somerset. Please support badger vaccination until cattle vaccination becomes a reality as it has proved to have significant benefits without the major costs and divisiveness that the badger culls have

I feel the cull is inhumane. Surely we can find a way that honours the Life in all. Thank you.

As a keen rambler who lived in the Mendip District for over 50 years I fully support the opposition to the culling of badgers.
