The community and the government want gangs and gang members off the street. The easiest solution is to lock them up, but the courts can only lock them up for so long. So when a labeled gang member is incarcerated all programs and job opportunities are not an option for them. So my question is to the government, "why are all rehabilitating programs denied to the gang members? Shouldn't they be a priority to these programs so when they are released they have some experience to the school and work field instead of going right back to the streets." I dont understand how the corrections can honestly believe that keeping them locked in cell, for the majority of their time is gonna help them to be become responsible members of society. Most of these gang members know nothing else but illegal activities, they weren't given the right path growing up, due to alcoholism, drug addictions and poverty, at least 90% of the gang members incarcerated do not have an education past grade 10 and most have never held a job. My personal opinion is to give the gang members the same programming as "murderers, child molesters, wife beaters, drunk drivers, etc. etc.," They need to learn how to live just as much as everyone else. So instead of these "gang members" being released back into OUR community with no knowledge of how to change, continuing the same lifestyle, and being put back into the jail, give them the opportunity to change for the better and give them a reason not to reoffend.
