Georgia State University's BCOM 3950, section 046, taught by Professor Natalie Godwin, is said to require students nine to twelve hours of work, on average, per week—according to the syllabus. Amidst a pandemic, the workload assigned to students of this course is extremely inconsiderate. Along with the emotional and financial pressure brought on students by COVID-19 and the sudden transition to remote learning, Natalie Godwin's BCOM 3950 has become another contributor to the strenuous lifestyle in which students are adjusting to.

This course's weekly assignments and almost biweekly projects can usually end up taking sometimes more than twelve hours a week, especially when factoring in the required BCOM Lab. Most students in this class are also registered as full-time students in addition to working part-time jobs—at a minimum—to pay their bills and accommodate school tuition. As the workload becomes more time consuming each week, students will soon notice a reflection in their grades as a result.

Many students have emailed professor Godwin regarding the heavy workload and her response was "...I worked full time while earning my graduate degree and there's not enough time for work, school, family and sleep! You'll get through it and I hope you learn skills that you will take throughout your professional career. I'm here to help you do it." Though presented in a very comforting manner, Godwin's statement was not written in a very accommodative nature whatsoever. Hence, the workload has persisted since her email to her students on Sunday, September 6th, 2020.

By signing this petition, students are asking that Georgia State University's Advisement Center support their concern about both their aspirations to protect their emotional health, and maintain and increase their GPA by decreasing the workload in Professor Godwin's BCOM 3950 Section 046 class.

This class is literally taking up all my time. I have shifts at work and two other classes that have projects due at the same time. Really need some flexibility right now.
