We have used this grant at our school to support parent engagement in many areas. Most recently, mental health awareness in youth, bullying, and safe social media practices. These grants have been a great boon to parents and schools alike to help bring awareness and support to families who may otherwise not receive it or know there's a problem.

PRO Grant funding has been instrumental in helping my school council organize a variety of activities that engage families in our school community. We’ve focused our events on important topics like resiliency, growth mindset and a love for math. We couldn’t bring together our school community in this way without PRO Grant funding as we are a small school and don’t have a budget to bring in speakers or purchase helpful items to supplement the topics. I would like to see the government immediately reinstate this funding so we can continue to engage families in our school community.

At both elementary and secondary levels, I have been part of Parent Council groups who have successfully applied for PRO grants and used them for beneficial workshops and events. Parental engagement in their children's learning is key to their academic success, as clearly demonstrated in many studies. PRO grants help us engage parents and remove barriers to attending events, for example: workshops on "how to talk so kids will listen", or "homework help", or "safe social media practices". If you live in a school's catchment area, distance is no longer an obstacle to your participation in the workshop, but if offered at a local recreation centre it may be too far to travel after a long day of working. Returning funding for PRO grants will show that Ontario Conservatives believe in our students and support the role parents play in their academic success.

I am currently the Chair of our Parent Council at St. Paul's Secondary School in Mississauga and prior to that I was the school council co-chair at ST. John Paul Elementary School in Bolton. I have been using the funds from the Pro-Grant for many years at both my children's elementary school and now, high school, to bring in speakers/workshops/and other parent engagement opportunities to educate our parents, offering them the tools to enrich the lives of their children. I support the "un-pausing" of these funds as they really do make a difference. Thank-you.

I spear headed a few of these PRO grants in the past... the one supporting children's mental health education was phenomenal and empowered many of our school families with respect to enhancing their knowledge and understanding of common children's mental health issues and concerns; resources available in the community to support both children and their families/caregivers with mental health related situations; and we purchased books for children and parents on coping with some common mental health issues. This is an extremely important initiative that should NOT be paused... parent engagement in learning and education is vital to support our children who are growing up in the world we live in today.

We are in desperate times in supporting the connection of parents with schools. We need to do all we can. Right now, Vaping is a very very very debilitating problem in our high schools. We need to engage parents in this problem. We have no government support on this issue. We need funds to engage parents . We can't carry the ball without financial support, as we do not have government support on this issue.
