Prioritize SCAD Upperclassmen in Housing

Mom of SCAD alumni here - I used to brag about how good the system was at SCAD where you prioritized seniority in housing selection. With scholarships tied to on or off campus, it was cheaper to stay on campus all 4 years (except part of Covid). That experience of student housing and being close to academic buildings was instrumental to being able to graduate and learn how to live on their own. I know incoming freshman are important and they want a good start too, but please continue the seniority that has worked so well.

Please give me my housing back

All students should have some where to live on campus. Do better SCAD!

This is the third year now of a disastrous housing situation for my daughter. Do better SCAD.

PLEASE LET ME HAVE HOUSING IM TOO POOR TO MOVE OFF CAMPUS

I cannot afford to live off campus as an international student

My daughter has attended SCAD for the past three years. Like all other freshman, her first year was spent at the Hive. Each year afterwards, housing priority went to those upperclassman, i.e. Seniors much the same way class registration is accomplished. Now that she is a finally a Senior, priority has shifted and is being given to Sophomores which is extremely frustrating to our daughter as well as for my wife and I because of the possible impact it will have on her scholarship. Please reverse your decision and honor your commitment to the student body and give Seniors priority for housing as has been done in the past. Such extreme policy decisions and/or changes should not be made in a vacuum and the impact it may have on the student body should be taken into consideration. Again, please reverse this decision and give our Seniors back the respect and status they so rightly deserve. Not doing so would be a clear signal to both the students and the parents that enrollment numbers are the priority and not the current SCAD student body.

SCAD Housing is a business to get students on board and then throwing them out of board to get new ones.

Dear SCAD Administration or Appropriate Office, I am writing to express my deep concern about SCAD’s recent policy change that prioritizes incoming freshmen for on-campus housing. While I understand the need to welcome and accommodate new students, this shift has placed significant and unexpected burdens on upperclassmen, especially juniors and seniors, who are now being forced to find off-campus housing. The cost of living in Savannah is notoriously high, and many of the more affordable areas come with serious safety concerns. For students like myself who have already invested two or more years of time, effort, and substantial tuition, transferring to another institution is not a practical option. SCAD’s specialized programs and unique structure make switching schools incredibly difficult, leaving current students stuck with limited and costly choices. There is a growing perception that SCAD is prioritizing the influx of new freshmen for financial gain, knowing that current students have little option but to continue under these increasingly challenging conditions. It feels as though we are being marginalized in favor of new tuition dollars, despite the fact that we are equally deserving of support and stability in our academic environment. Rather than expanding enrollment without sufficient housing solutions, I urge SCAD to reconsider this policy and explore ways to better balance the needs of both new and returning students. Limiting enrollment growth until adequate housing options are in place would demonstrate that SCAD truly values its entire student body—not just prospective students. Otherwise, this policy comes across as a bait-and-switch, luring students in with promises of a comprehensive experience, only to leave them scrambling for housing in their later years. We already don’t have enough housing as is. Rather than scad admit this and put a cap on next years freshmen, they are making these stupid “solutions”. I am on scholarship and can’t move off campus anytime soon. Do better scad.

Seniors should be first and Juniors next and so on. So easy and instinctual.

As a parent of a rising Senior I find it ridiculous that there is a chance my daughter does not have seniority of SCAD housing, that she may be forced to live 7 hours away at home in order to finish her student career at SCAD. Students who have spent their first three years working towards what hopes to be a fulfilling degree from SCAD should without doubt be given the opportunity and be prioritized over underclassmen the first choice in SCAD housing.

As someone who has dealt with insane SCAD housing before, this is ridiculous. Prioritize the people who have worked hard to stay at SCAD.

I'm a parent of a junior and am dismayed by the administration undercutting this group of students as they approach graduation. Are you thinking you "have them over the barrel" and they'll continue their education regardless of how difficult you make things for them?

SCAD created the housing problem by admitting too many students and tying scholarship money to housing. Now they punish the students who have been there the longest by taking away housing options! It’s a very bad look for the school!

Scar promised on campus housing for safety and its tied to our Bee’s scholarship. We cannot lease an apt from NJ and furnish it for our student.
