I'm honestly not qualified to talk about whether AP Principles of Computer Science deserves to be weighted or not, but if the school had already said that the course was going to be weighted before the class began, then it should remain that way.

I agree with Frank. Computer Science Principles should be a weighted class, as it is with all of the other computer science classes.

An AP course should be counted towards weighted GPA as an advanced course, like any other AP courses are. RRISD should review its list of weighted GPA courses and correct the mistake instead of penalizing those students who have been working so hard.

For the school to announce in the 5th marking period that this class is NOT weighted/counting towards the GPA is beyond comprehension....Students made decisions on their schedule based on the fact that the counsellors unanimously encouraged the students to take this class due to it being weighted. So they may have taken a different route, or rearranged their time and efforts towards classes that are "weighted" had they known earlier, not in March when more than half the year has passed.
The school and district need to make this right. A school with the reputation of Westwood should not be on the wrong side of this

Please do the right thing. Students should not be penalized because they were not informed that this AP course was not on a weighted GPA scale.

I support the petition. It was originally offered as GPA weighed class, need to keep the students motivated to learn and take the AP exam at year end.

It is important that AP principles of Computer Science be considered as a weighted class on a 6.0 GPA scale. The work and AP level tasks require higher than on-level concepts and thinking. When such a course is introduced at an AP level of expectation from students interested in pursuing the subject, it is crucial that sufficient credit is associated with it as well.

Computer Science is a crucial future-ready skill, this petition existed because the system doesn't get ready fast enough to the world pace. The public department can modify the curriculum standard later if they think it's too easy, but should keep to their previous word. Please care our public education quality!

Having this as GPA weighted class is a way to encourage kids to take Compsci seriously. In today's world CompScience is becoming a core subject similar to Math, Physics etc.
