Dear President Obama, In your debate on Oct 16 with Mitt Romney, you said that you favored "keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill." This is discrimination and stereotyping. People labeled "mentally ill" are no more likely than anyone else to commit acts of violence. Some of us are responsible gun owners. We are in fact more likely than others to be victimized by violence. People labeled "mentally ill" vote. We are covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act and by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which you have signed and sent to the Senate for ratification. Please stop scapegoating us, offer an apology and adopt policies on gun control that apply equally to everyone without discrimination based on based on disability, such as a ban on assault weapons.

Seeing all these people take notice is honestly overwhelming because I honestly thought it would just be me yelling into the void about this stigma. It feels like we are finally being seen as actual people instead of just a talking point in some political debate.

So much misunderstanding about civil rights for every disability, for victims of crime, discrimination, poverty, censure ... Do we all share equal rights? Together, with cooperation, open minds and open hearts, let's reach out to each other- mindfulness, mindfulness

Stop painting us all with the same brush. Dealing with depression doesn't make me dangerous and it definitely doesn't mean I lose my rights.

Sick of being the scapegoat. I have served this country and I am more than capable of being a responsible gun owner. Stop the discrimination.

PREACH. The constant blaming of mental health for every tragedy is just a way to avoid talking about real gun reform. Fix the system not the people.

It is honestly terrifying how easily they push this narrative. We are people too, not some scary monsters you can just blame for everything.

My anxiety has nothing to do with my ability to own a firearm. This is just shameful stereotyping coming from the top.
