This is a public school, in a well known gentrified neighborhood. I'm not sure if that means anything to you, but it means everything to me. Milwaukee HS of the Arts can provide healing, love, and acceptance to many students suffering through silence. Art gives people a voice, it gives them encouragement, and allows them to feel at peace because they are being taught to grow using the art within themselves. They still have academic classes, but the main reason why the students have motivation to even get up and go to school is because of the whole 2 HOURS OF ART THEY GET TO MANIFEST.

Class of '95. MHSA prepared me for a cheer in the arts, was a safe haven for kids who were creative and overwhelmed by regular high school, and taught subjects in a way that was easier to conceptualize them because there was context - for me that context was the history of art.

MHSA offers so much to the greater Milwaukee community. It builds confident well versed students that specialize in arts and communication. We must continue to value it's importance!!!

In my opinion, High School of the Arts is one of the most amazing and impressive schools of the Milwaukee Public Schools. Everyone I have know that has attended MHSA has excelled in life and credits their time at MHSA for giving them the foundation to expand and grow. Why would anyone want to change a winning formula?

I think of MHSA every single day and of the impact the school had on me. The connections I made at that school have lasted through the 5 years after my graduation in 2012. There was an incredible support system between the students, unlike any other school in MPS, where everyone had each others back. The level and love of talent seen there made going to school every day so enjoyable and positive. Learning my art and doing theatre every single day for most of the day made the experience completely worthwhile. Knowing that everyone at that school had at least one thing in common, a passion for artistic expression, was a huge driving force for me as a student. Everyone understood the importance of making the art courses a priority. Taking that opportunity from incoming freshman and current students lessens the impact the school has on the future generations.

The students I work with at MIAD who have come from MHSA have never failed to impress me. Keep this institution alive. We need to resist all these attacks on MPS.

Not only are rhe arts important at this school (its why many have chosen it) bit its important at eveey school. Its a proven fact it helps with other aspects of school.

Time and again we read about the important benefits the arts have with brain development and thinking. As a Milwaukee resident these are the things residents want. We need the children in our community to develop these skills.
