I am a recent alumni of MHSA , class of 2016 . Having theatre for two hours everyday for four years had a big impact on my life . Studying theatre opened my eyes to different aspects of the art form and to this day I have a strong passion for the production side of theatre. I am glad I had the opportunity to study at a high school that gave me that chance to gain a strong passion for a art . I hope so many other teenagers will hsve the same privilege.

The art program is a big factor in the MHSA School and to take tge program is like taking the heart of the school away! Keep the Arts program! Its a wonderful thing to bring the community together and enjoy and watch talented young high schoolers!

Class of 2010, Orchestra. MHSA provides an exceptional learning environment where students are able to thrive in both their art area as well as academics. Teachers and staff worked with students in every class to integrate academics with what they were passionate about which made students truly care about what they were learning. The teachers and staff constantly take the time to understand students and their experiences. They continually go above and beyond to help students succeed in more than just their academics. My experience at MHSA helped me get into and graduate from UW-Madison.

To whom it may concern: I am a very proud alumni of Milwaukee High School of the Arts (MHSA). Since my graduation I have talked this school up to everyone I know. As a result my niece goes there today. The experiences I have had are unmatchable to any basic school without a focus on the arts. I've learned the importance of diversity, what an inclusive environment looks like, general studies and the different levels of the visual arts program and how it relates to the world we love be I today. Growing up on the South Side of Milwaukee, I should not currently be living the life I am living. I should not currently have a high school education, college degree, or the career path I do today. When I look back on what helped me the most, MHSA is the first that comes to mind. My focus on the arts kept me engaged in school and off the streets. I don't know how to explain it to you other than the importance on focusing on the different types of thinking in the brain. For me and many others, who attended an arts school, it's the creative side of the brain. I looked up to my art teachers and their feedback on my work. I looked forward to proving I could adjust and make the pieces they were hoping for. It's what kept me in class, looking forward to the projects I was working on and what was next. What MHSA taught me will never leave my life. To this day I still consider myself an artist. I create paintings today and am able to donate some of my pieces for a better cause. My 5 year old son is following along in my footprints already with a creative mind who is most interested in visual learning and expresses himself the best through art. Knowing there is a chance that the teens in Milwaukee who have a passion for art in any artistic area, won't have the opportunities that my fellow alumni and I had saddens me greatly. Knowing that there is a little girl or boy who grew up in the same situation I did and had the same interest I did, but could possibly miss out on the opportuni

I had the best high school experience at MHSA and I wouldn't have gotten it anywhere else. Having arts in the school gives a unique opportunity and you learn new things. I know many people I've graduated with that Perdue their majors in college. It's a great program.

This school made me who I am today. Not only did it help me with my musical talent, but it helped me get out of my comfort zone and be more open with life. I loved my time at the Arts. Every person who wants that experience should be given a chance to have it!

This school has strengthened many of us as people, and as the artists that we are. There has been an interminable effort to continue to be what we are today. Not only will the discontinuance of the arts areas shatter what this school is all about, it will seriously shatter the dreams and aspirations of everyone who goes here. This is what a lot of people looking forward to day in and day out! To some of us, this is all we have. Why ruin something so great?! We have made huge efforts to bust our butts in academics and we have improved drastically. Why take this away from us? Who are you guys to say that the arts aren't just as important as liberal arts or stem programs? That's extremely selfish. We are indeed Milwaukee High School of the ARTS.

I have 3 children who are graduates and one who is halfway through his schooling there. The 2 hour commitment to arts ciriculum is critical to student success.
