Without the arts I would not be the artist I am today. Without MHSA being there for many youth in Milwaukee they wouldn't be where they are today. I now live in California, making a living off of the arts. Using everything that I learned in my 4 years that I attended MHSA. I thank MHSA , the teachers and the arts programs for pushing me and teaching me everything I needed and more to survive in the art industry! Milwaukee needs the arts, and they need MHSA .

This school helps kids with their curriculum and arts art is a great way for our children to express themselves the teachers at the school care about the kids and you don't find that often anymore and the principal along with the teachers really do help prepare our kids for what is After High School

Many musicians, artists, dancers, actors, and writers have flourished from their instruction at Milwaukee High School of the Arts. I am proud to be an alumni from such an influential school. We must preserve the arts!

I am a proud graduate of MHSA and feel that it is an integral part of the Milwaukee community. I implore you to think long and hard about reducing or taking away from this great school. Research has shown that an arts education enhances learning, allows for freedom of expression and gives kids an outlet for their emotions. It also creates the future performers which, if we are lucky, will decide to remain in our great city and continue to try and make a difference through their art and education sharing. Arts are essential and which I passionately believe deserves your protection and consideration.

We need the arts focus in our district. We have enough schools purely focused on academics. We have watered down the arts enough at the sacrifice of our students. Please preserve this school.

I cannot stress how important it was that MHSA existed for me when I was a teenager. Even before high school, my whole life revolved around performing and I was ostracized and bullied in a non-arts middle school for being such a "music nerd." I was incredibly depressed and contemplating suicide. Then I found out about MHSA and signed up immediately. Being around other students who loved the Arts as much as I did saved my life. Over 20 years later, I am still a working musician, and I taught music lessons to kids and teens for many years. I am currently also a Music Librarian and have a BA in Arts and an MM in music history and literature. I truly believe that none of this would have been possible if it weren't for my time at the Milwaukee H.S of the Arts.
I am still close friends with many of my MHSA peers and they all feel as passionately as I. MHSA's Arts program was, and continues to be, incredibly important in our lives.

As a former employee of MHSA, I know first hand of the impact the Fine Arts staff have on the students. MHSA is a symbol of the best MPS can be, and the thought of losing arts staff due to budget cuts would be tragic for the students, district and community. So many students who are successful at MHSA go on to be successful members of our community, much due to the effectiveness of their teachers.
