Vocal performance, class of 2004. I can claim this because of the requirements associated with a creative arts major at MHSA.
Removing the 2 hour requirement would make Milwaukee High School of the Arts just a school with good arts ... until it was no longer a magnet school because talented arts staff would leave and bidding young artists would no longer be drawn together at the school. Eliminating this requirement would invalidate MHSA's status as a performing and creative arts high school.

Having two hours every day is essential this school. Without it we would not be any different from the other schools. Don't take away our opportunities to better ourselves in what we love doing

With all the statics that show how much kids benefit from the arts, it would be ridiculous action to take this away. The only reason arts is cut and not sports is due to the income sports generate. The arts do generate an income in shows, plays, theater and concerts.

With so much that we hear going wrong in the world and our communities it would be an absolute injustice to see the proposed changes occur at MHSA. This would make the program completely unrecognizable completely decimate the effective formula created by having the current structure there is today. We cannot afford to lose such a precious gem not only for community but our nation as well. Making the proposed cuts and changes will undoubtedly guarantee the destruction of the unique and critial beauty that is MHSA as we know it.

The best years of my life were spent at this school...read through the comments and see how many former students are saying those words! That is not typical! And it should show that MHSA is special! Many of my closest friends and best memories are from my 4 years there. I had opportunities and experiences I would never had had at a regular MPS high school and Im so greatful I got the chance to go there. It would be a shame not to have this unique and wonderful school available to future generations!! Class of 1993♡♡♡

MHSA changed my life and I'm so glad that I was able to attend that school. I transferred there in my Junior year and I'm so glad that I did. The two hour daily instruction of one's art is so critical to this school and what it stands for. We need to keep this system!

Seriously? One of your former students is currently nominated for a GRAMMY and my daughter will be an incoming freshman next year for dance? Thanks for trying to bait and switch. Keep the arts funding.

The arts is important and should not be cut.
