I graduated from MHSA in 2007, I attribute a large amount of my fulfillment, and the foundation of my success to the ability to nurture my gifts in this wonderful school.

I am a 2008 alumni of MHSA, and it is without a doubt that I wouldn't be the artist I am without the amazing teachers and arts programs this school has to offer. I have seen others I went to high school with pursue their passion and succeed in their art field. I still hold the love and acceptance that was shown in every student, no matter what color, nationality, family status, sexual orientation, etc. by the teachers at MHSA. This isn't simply about art classes. This about protecting opportunities for students to be a part of an amazing creative team, learning discipline, taking and giving criticism, and instilling the will to overcome obstacles to better yourself. Whether it is music ensembles, dance, theater production, peer writing projects, or collaborative art projects, MHSA is a community for growing creative individual minds who carry those skills in their life and work.

This school gave me so much more than just a high school diploma; it gave me strength, culture, real-life skills, and the ability to succeed in my future. Without the arts aspect of this education, I wouldn't be the person I am today. Keep the arts alive!

Don't take away, for a lot of students who go/have graduated MHSA, the creative identities that have influenced thousands of kids at MHSA for the past 20+ years.

I am a proud alum if MHSA c/o 2002 Vocal Music. I am where I am in my profession because of the vocal instruction I received as a student there.

Arts is a part of our school. Stripping us away of our art is the same as stripping us of our identity.

High School of the Arts, and particularly the work of Raymond Roberts, is a beacon of hope and light that reaches far beyond the school walls, enriching the lives of not only the students, but all of us who are privileged to see their gifts blossom. Please keep watering this garden with the finances it needs, and deserves, to grow!

Please keep the arts alive, the talent that thrives from this amazing school has allowed me to go forth and continue my passion within my life in the arts! This school has amazing teachers with their dedication to the best education for each student, if it wasn't for their care and lessons for my life I wouldn't be the woman I am today!

I spent two treasured years at MHSA, and it shaped my life in such a profound way and catapulted me towards the future I wanted. I attended the best contemporary music school in the world, which I now work for and I NEVER would have gotten there without the 2 hours of daily instruction from MHSA. Do not rob children on their hopes, their dreams, and their skills. You cannot strip children of their resources, citing that art is unimportant and then drive home listening to the radio, turn on a movie with your family, or go shopping for that beautiful outfit you've been wanting. It's hypocritical. Shame on you. Art is what makes life worth living between the drudgery of desk work.

I know so many amazing, creative people who went to MHSA and became absolutely inspirational as adults, contributing richly to the arts. Please let this resource continue to nurture artistic development in students in the future.

The fine and performing arts has been an intricate part of the culture of man for centuries. Milwaukee Public Schools has already limited these resources in many of its schools across the district. It makes no sense to me why the district would even consider touching one of its only premier high schools dedicated to continuing the art education that I and others have used to springboard our careers not only in the arts but in the sciences. I ask the school board to reconsider its position on cutting staff who have made my high school experience in the art the most enjoyable four years of one could hope for.
