Why take away something that has gotten a lot of us students so far? Also The alumni's that are doing Amazing just for going here. This school is a continuing life experience for myself and others and I hope this still coninues on. Without our talents we wouldn't have our vocalist ranked #1. Having our Majors brings us all together as one. I can go on and on, but MHSA has helped me inhance who I am personally and also as a Visual Artist!

Cutting the Arts positions in the MPS arts schools just doesn't make sense! I also think that art and music should be part of every child's education.

Both my children have benefited greatly from the programs at MHSA and I have seen this school offer opportunities to students who would not have found them elsewhere. Please maintain the programming standards.

I attend arts for the expected reason that I will be participating in a art field, so when I found out that funding would be cut and I would possibly be not participating in the reason I attend school WHY SHOULD I ATTEND MHSA!!!!

As a former parent of a MHSA Orchestra major/graduate and a 36 year retired MPS Art Specialist, I know first hand the power of arts based education. From my son's wonderful years at Elm and MHSA, to the many MPS Elementary and Middle school students I taught during my career, I witnessed positive interactions, growth in self esteem, and countless incidents of students developing life long talents that have led to prosperous futures! Cutting positions at any of the Arts schools will undercut the strong programs offered there. A number of years ago, detrimental cuts slashed the staff at Elm Creative Arts and as a result the once star MPS elementary school has struggled to return to it's passed glory. Pleas don't make the same mistake with Milwaukee High School of the Arts!

MHSA and the arts schools in Milwaukee are a unique and fully accessible way for young people with talent to grow and develop their craft, particularly for those who do not have the financial means and family support to pay for private schools and lessons. The program has been developed over many, many years, and is working at bare bones structure already. As we have already seen with the cuts in other school around MPS, it is much harder and much more expensive to rebuild something that to just fund it properly in the first place. Funding should reflect the needs of this school. Please consider all costs - up front and future repercussions - when setting up the budget for this and all MPS schools

MHSA and it's arts programming is an absolutely indispensable institution for the city of Milwaukee. Arts education MUST be available for the youth that benefit from learning in this way. My orchestra class was the only reason why I continued to show up to the rest of my classes my senior year of high school. Being a part of that orchestra absolutely, without a doubt, made me who I am today. Today, I am a musician, an actress, and a singer. Today, I am also an educator, passing along the strength that the arts can bring to the next generation as best I can. Do NOT defund this school. There is NO reason that could overshadow the reasons to keep it up and running. NONE.

As founder of the MHSA Jazz Studies program and an enthusiastic supporter of the school since my retirement, I am well aware of the importance of maintaining the core arts curriculum and the appropriate arts staffing! MHSA as had a profound influence on thousands of students and is the cornerstone of quality education in MPS, but it's future is in jeopardy!
