The arts program is so important and is what actually got me through school. It is extremely important for students to be able to exercise their talents and express their craft in a positive form. Not only is getting an education important, but when struggling academically the arts is what ignites motivation to keep going and gives students a sense of purpose.

I might be a senior but i know this school is going to make it far like it is now in the next generation Dont take away what MHSA Have to offer. ! We have the most talented students in the district some even made it on TV !

As a proud parent of 2011 mhsa graduate, Cullen Bogan, I implore you NOT to cut the Arts program. My son had a "double major " (Orchestra, cello, & Jazz guitar ) . The skills he learned at mhsa have enabled him to get his Bachelor's in Music from Roosevelt University in Chicago and become a practicing professional musician in Chicago. Within the last year, he recently sent me pictures of his 1st two royalty checks for music he composed for 20th century Fox & the 2017 Madden football video game. Thank you Dr. Amaya.

I'm a current student at Milwaukee High School of the Arts. Our school deserves to continue to be in Arts school. It's what all of us who signed want and it's what we deserve because we worked hard for this school!

Proud MHSA parents of 3: 1994, 2007, 2009. It saddens me to hear that MHSA and its arts-based programs are threatened, once again, by budgetary shortfalls. But this is nothing new and will continue unless a more stable revenue plan is found that is not dependent on the whims and misadventures of elections and bureaucrats. On November 10, 2006 a group of concerned but determined parents paid for a full page ad in the Milwaukee JS to alert Milwaukee to the potential loss of a community gem--MHSA. MHSA was $700,000 in debt and facing the loss of 5 teaching positions as well as the Creative Writing major. The ad is simple. It lists why MHSA is so valuable and why all Milwaukeans should care about what happens to MHSA. It netted $60,000 in donations and cooperation from MPS to pay the debt down over time without losing staff and programs. Fast forward 10 years and in that time about 10,000 more students have benefited from MHSA in ways that can be measured and perhaps in more substantial ways that cannot be gleaned from test scores or trophies. What is clear (are you listening MPS?) is that equal funding for each student may appear fair and noble but it is not. That is at the core of the budgetary issues. It’s not fair because the circumstances are not equal. Art schools need qualified art teachers in addition to the academics. Student artists need an artistic environment every bit as much as a science major needs a lab. MHSA has earned your respect and your financial support. It’s time for you to accept the realities and support them.
Teachers, you were asked in 2006 if chartering MHSA could be the answer. It wasn’t then but maybe the time has come.

This school saved me from becoming just another statistic. MHSA's Arts program changes lives. To take that away is to take away from the city of Milwaukee as a whole.
