Milwaukee High School of the Arts should be about the ARTS. This school has opened up so many doors for so many people, including myself. MHSA NEEDS to remain the beautiful outlet that teaches kids how important art is as well as ways to express themselves. Preserve the Arts.

Class of 2000, future MPS parent. It pains me to see a program like Arts being chipped away at. Not every child needs or wants a college prep, high academic pressure environment. After leaving Arts I got a BA in English, took two Montessori trainings, became a certified secondary education English teacher and early childhood teacher, and completed my masters of education. Could I have withstood the academic environment at King? Sure. Did I want to or need to? No. If your goal is to graduate the most students possible in MPS give them MORE opportunities to thrive, not fewer.

1hr is like other schools who offer art, it's nothing special. You will lose more students to choice. 2 hrs is needed to get the full studies in art. Explaining Technique and directions, history, set up, clean up and to work.

I'm a 2010 arts graduate and would not be where I am today without the education I received. Following a BA in Art History, I'm currently working towards a MS in Art Therapy Counseling and would ultimately like to pursue a PhD.

the mission to provide 2 hours of arts instruction to ALL students can not be diluted. MHSA students go on to be very successful in their adult lives and this is a big part of that.

There already has been a reduction in visual arts classes for freshmen. We were surprised by this when my daughter started there.

The two-hour arts education has been around since the programs started in 1984/85. Funding should be made available to fill all teaching positions in all arts related areas. Administration should keep the focus on producing high-end arts education and fill all arts positions before other positions are filled.

As a graduate of 2013, I am appalled knowing that cuts ar being made to my school. When Scott Walker was elected in office my fellow students and faculty rose to the occasion to protest against his cuts then. Now that these cuts are going to be in affect. I cannot stress how detrimental this will be to the learning environment. I transferred to MHSA because I knew I wanted art to be apart of my life. Please don't take away the only thing that some kids look forward to during their day. Art for some, keeps them breathing. As a graduate from MIAD 2017, I realized that art is something I take seriously and I could not see myself in the future without it. Take this seriously and reconsider your actions.

I taught at MSHA for a year and observed first hand and on a daily basis the impact the study of the arts had upon my students. The tradition of arts education at MSHA should be continued.
