Let's ask Tri-County Electric Co-Op to revise their Tarriff from 2005. It's been 10 years!!!
Tri-County Electric Co-Op has a monopoly in parts of Keller, Westlake and other areas in North Texas. The original idea behind a Co-Op was lower electricity rates, but this no longer holds true - see image of rates to the left. Homeowners in the Tri-County coverage area are stuck with the one and ONLY rate plan offered:
10 cents per kWh with no choices for renewable energy sources. To maintain profit margins Tri-County discourages homeowners from alternative electricity sources such as solar or wind by charging a $12 per month net-metering fee! This $12 "net-metering" fee translates into a $3600 increase in cost of ownership for a 25 year solar array.
There is no net-metering fee in the Oncor service area!

This is money they charge mainly because they can. There is no cost to Tri-County they just want some easy pickings. As more people get involved in solar power these charges will be even more appalling than they are now. Yes, Tri-County, let's get into encouraging power diversity, please.

Tri country prices are ridiculously high at $12c per kWh. Tri country just fattening their own board members wallet. This is a free country. We should have a choice for our electric providers. Oncor allows their customers to choose tri county should as well!
