Alan Dobie started acting in 1949 and, last appeared on stage last september 2019
he has also written/directed and narrated in his long and wonderful career and, in all that time has never won an award of any kind for his stage/ television or film work
his voice in his audio recordings is also unique - i am on facebook if you wish to view his archive smv ridout - he is 87 in june
The increase in momentum confirms that the industry needs to recognize this body of work. I am drafting a formal request to the BAFTA awards committee to discuss an honorary lifetime achievement nomination.

Alan Dobie is a wonderfully charismatic actor with a somewhat mysterious and magnetic character. It's true he has a seemingly serious demeanor but at the same time possesses a witty and wonderful sense of humour. He is what I would call a serious actor, and yet on a personal level, I found him to be a truly humble, caring and lovely man.

Absolutely I agree. Worked w him in Canada on Hadrian the VII. Brilliant actor...less is more. Became a huge fan of his work afterwards and often wondered why he did not get more credit.
Let's make this happen!

Alan Dobie was, and I am quite sure still is at the Grand age of 92 an absolutely superb actor. If Bafta cannot reward a lifetime of such excellence than the Academy is not fit for purpose.

Surely one of Britain's finest actors. I have been a big fan since I first saw him on screen in the BBC dramatisation of War and Peace in the early 70s.

I saw Alan at the Old Vic In Bristol in the 50,s he has a wonderful voice and is a brilliant actor. The programme at the Old Vic used to change every 3 weeks and my friend and I had season tickets.I was 15 at the time and dreamed of being an actress unfortunately I only acted in amateur productions in my local youth club.

Just been watching his performance in War And Peace (1972), incredible screen presence and vocal gravitas. Also familiar with his work on Kessler and Cribb, takes me back to better time.

Amazed to find out that such a well known and significant actor has remained unrecognised for his myriad talets and performances
