Just been watching his performance in War And Peace (1972), incredible screen presence and vocal gravitas. Also familiar with his work on Kessler and Cribb, takes me back to better time.

Alan Dobie was, and I am quite sure still is at the Grand age of 92 an absolutely superb actor. If Bafta cannot reward a lifetime of such excellence than the Academy is not fit for purpose.

Alan Dobie should be publicly recognised with a BAFTA lifetime award. He has consistently contributed to stage, film and television productions in a diverse range of unforgettable performances. In addition, he has written, directed and produced works, and has enhanced many documentaries with his warm clear vocal style. In addition he is also an artist.
It is difficult to reconcile why Mr Dobie, at 92 years, remains unacknowledged by BAFTA despite him sharing so prodigiously his unique gifts to us. It is time!

Surely one of Britain's finest actors. I have been a big fan since I first saw him on screen in the BBC dramatisation of War and Peace in the early 70s.

I have enjoyed watching Alan Dobie on tv and in the movies since PBS broadcast Cribb in the US and Canada around 1979/1980. Hope you get enough signatures and please give Mr. Dobie my warmest regards.

I saw Alan at the Old Vic In Bristol in the 50,s he has a wonderful voice and is a brilliant actor. The programme at the Old Vic used to change every 3 weeks and my friend and I had season tickets.I was 15 at the time and dreamed of being an actress unfortunately I only acted in amateur productions in my local youth club.

Alan Dobie adorned the covers of my first three Sergeant Cribb paperbacks bought in Leicester whilst failing to get my Rollei camera repaired. I bought them from a very nice man in his bookshop, after negotiating a discount, because I remembered the TV series. The series of books is arguably the best thing Peter Lovesey ever wrote. I re-read them regularly enjoying them each time as much as ever - and it is Alan Dobie's voice I hear across the years. I doubt that he'll get a knighthood, and when you look at numerous recipients of the honour in years gone by his talent and merit greatly exceeds theirs, but I like to think that the knowledge of the pleasure he has given, and continues to give, to thousands and thousands over such a long and distinguished career will be more than adequate recompense. I, for one, salute him.
