Please Do Not Pass the Investment Resolution

This is a possibly well-intentioned but dangerous petition whose existence already has encouraged antisemitism in our community. Let’s save our Council’s time and the city’s funds for our pressing local problemd.

The CCC

Ward 8. It is telling that within 16 hours almost 1/4-1/3 of the active Jewish community have signed this. I feel the fear, I hear it from my friends who are scared to bring their kids to Jewish summer camp, Jewish religious school, to holiday celebrations. Many of feel that this is antisemitism and is scary. We want the war to end. We want Palestinians to be safe and have their own home. And we don’t think this does anything but cause pain and harm for those in our community, and a feel good feeling of signaling for those who want it to pass.

Please address local issues, not things that the City Council has no control over nor has expertise in these areas.

Keep Corvallis a welcoming community for all. Stop wasting public time and money on a resolution that will have no effect on conflicts on the other side of the world but will negatively affect our local community and your own constituents. No amount of rewording will change that this is a lose-lose resolution for Corvallis. (Ward 8)

As a mediator I encourage the City Council to reject attempts to divide our community. As a Jew I fear the effects of attempts to "other" and fiscally emasculate a group based on politics. Say "Never Again" in our community and around the world - stop this resolution and allow all citizens of Corvallis to return to a sense of safety and joy in our diversity and welcoming City. .

I believe in no genocide, apartheid or anything that harms people needlessly.

Please do NOT pass this anti-Semitic shameful resolution

When legal rules have undefined terms, the result is quite often litigation over the meanings of those terms. The resolution has the potential to turn every investment decision into a lengthy dispute about definitions and whether they apply in a particular context. While it’s great for the city to espouse peace, the council should avoid putting itself in the position of diverting its people resources to these issues that do not affect Corvallis. (My personal view as a retired law professor.)

Please do not pass this resolution. The City Council should be concerned with local issues and not waste time and energy on global issues that they are not qualified to analyze, and that don't change anything except a growing unrest among Corvallis' Jewish population.

I believe that the Corvallis City Council should focus on local issues and not world events.

Ward 1

Please do not pass the BDS measure. If the council wishes to seriously consider ethical investing, then please assign a committee to study the issue. Ask the committee to hold town meetings to create a more complete list of ethical issues (such environmental) rather than promoting a single agenda. Have the committee do a cost analysis of the investment strategy shift were all the proposed criteria used to filter investments. Please make sure Corvallis can afford the lower investment returns (due to higher costs), increased man hours (for oversight), and higher risk (due to a smaller universe of investments) before proposing this big change in municipal fiscal policy.

defeating hypocrisy

This proposed resolution is very concerning. Many supporters have stated that they do not understand how this proposal is associated with Israel; yet the title alone focuses on genocide, apartheid, and illegal occupation, which are all terms leveled by some against Israel. Yet the proposal claims to focus on the Corvallis city investment profile, This proposal is cloaked anti-Israeli rhetoric. There is *no way* the city council can impact a long standing middle east conflict. We all love Corvallis, and we need our city council and staff to focus on local issues (our streets, water, air, transportation, sewers, local homelessness, etc.). Please do not pass this resolution. Our Corvallis Jewish community is ill served by this cloaked anti-semitism and ineffective "virtue signaling".

As I was walking through the Holocaust museum in Israel, I realized the BDS movement is the same as the 1930’s Germany making it illegal to buy anything from Jewish shops. Those who promote BDS are no better than modern day Nazis and anti semites. Think about which side of history you want to be on.
