We could lose a vital section of the Corringham Light Railway track bed because Price Waterhouse Cooper who are selling the land that once belonged to Petroplus before they went into administration, have grouped the remaining sections of land with the Pegasus club sale.

This means that once the club is sold, it will be under the management of the Malaysian group and we believe that they will not be interested in a small piece of land no more than 40 feet in width and has a oil pipeline running underneath it. As the new owners they will have the right to block access to that part of the trackbed and change the boundary as need be.

What the Corringham Light Railway Society would like to do, under the Pathways to the marshes heritage lottery bid is rent or lease the sections of land from the new owners and be allowed to develop it into a walk and cycleway that has views of the South Essex countryside and work towards sorting out an access to the Manorway at Coryton and beyond. Part of the land is already a public footpath, but we would like to make a section of land connect with another public footpath to make the whole line in the area accessible to all.

The Society in the last two years has already made a Kynoch Wildlife Corner on part of the land that is under fret and is basically working towards looking after the area and make it more accessible to all walkers and users of the area.

The Society would like to be given the chance to work with the new owners of the Peg in a way that we are not forgotten and neither is the land because it is a very big part of our communities history and should not be allowed to be forgotten.

This is all we ask for you to do, is sign this petition to save the CLR trackbed and to make a new walkway onto the marshes, which basically, was there all along.

Thank you for your time.

I honestly did not think so many people would care about a small patch of dirt behind the club but here we are and it makes me feel like maybe we actually have a shot at saving this history. It is just wild to see people noticing the trackbed and caring about the walk and the wildlife because I spent so long feeling like I was shouting into a void about these old rails.

Used to walk this path all the time as a kid. Shame to see it just get sold off and forgotten about. Keep it open for everyone.

PLEASE DONT LET THEM RUIN OUR LOCAL HISTORY. This track is part of the village and needs to be kept for the community not just handed over to some big company.

Keep the trackbed accessible. The society has done a brilliant job with the wildlife corner already. Let them keep working on it.
