I have been devastated at the sight of the canal every time I look outside my bedroom window and see the canal. Sometimes there isn't any litter or plastic but most of the time there is an old plastic bottle in the water or a plastic bin bag lying in the grass. This litter is destroying our environment and it has to stop. On the up side I have managed to photograph fish, birds, ducks and even a kingfisher. But soon all of these wonderful animals could be gone. Litter pollutes the water turning into a dangerous environment whilst other animals die because of chocking on plastic or rubbish. Sign this petition so that I can take it to as many people as possible so that hopefully they can take some more direct action. Also when you sign this petition there is the option to pledge if you will stop littering, do a litter clean up for 15,20,30min or another time and/or reduce plastic use If you decide to take part in the pledge please comment what you will do

I sat by the canal today watching a heron navigate through a tangle of plastic waste and it reminded me exactly why this fight is necessary. Your stories about local wildlife have been heartbreaking to read while processing the pledges to help clean up the banks. I am preparing to present these signatures to the local council so they can finally see the toll this is taking on our home.

Seeing so many of you join this effort gives me real hope that my local wildlife still has a fighting chance. I look out my window at the canal and feel less alone knowing that you are all fighting for these birds and fish alongside me.

Plastic is here to stay but until people behave responsibly and dispose of it properly humans and all living creatures are at risk in the future.
I completely support this. It's very sad to see what we as humans are doing to our environment and its inhabitants. As humans we have the ability to do something. Well done Maya on taking positive action x
I completely support what you're doing Maya and I have massive respect for you. I'm sure people in power will have to listen to us soon. So many people want to see an end to plastic now.
This is ridiculous and it needs to stop, animals are dying because people can’t be bothered to rycle
Everyone should be more concious of their environment and how they can impact it in both good and bad ways. Well done for raising this issue.

A very worthy cause Maya. Pressure needs to be applied on the Food and consumables industries to reduce their plastic usage. There is a UK company that has designed a type of plastic that is derived from Chitin. A material found in insects and crustaceans. It is bio-degradable in a matter of months. The Government needs to address this sorry situation.
