The council has officially rejected the current development plan for the University Avenue site. This outcome reflects the persistence required to ensure our neighborhood concerns were finally acknowledged by city officials. We have secured a pause that allows for a more thoughtful approach to how our community grows.

On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at 7:30 p.m., the Middleton Common Council will again consider the issue of granting PDD zoning approval to The Addison apartment building being developed by the Austringer Capital Group, LLC.
This is a 39-unit, four-floor building that is being proposed for the lots at 6814, 6818, and 6824 University Ave. (across from the Willy St. Co-op).
Area neighbors have repeatedly asked that the developer offer an alternative blueprint for the site that would not route part of its traffic out through a residential neighborhood, that would not be so much larger (at four stories) than any other building along University or towering over residences behind it, and that would be set further back from University than the planned nine feet to better preserve greenspace.
In addition, Middleton's Plan Commission has indicated they want to see buildings this height or taller set all along University Ave.
We are not opposed to development on these lots, and we know that more workforce housing is needed in Middleton. But we are worried about the height of the building, traffic, that it will be 80% impervious, and its effect on nearby property values. It has also been very difficult to get accurate information from the city or to contact our elected representatives, as we also learned early on that most emails we had sent to city officials and staff had either not been delivered or had been dumped into spam. We do not feel that our neighborhood concerns have been heard or that any compromises have been made.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION if you would like Middleton's City Council to postpone the rezoning for the Addison project, and also if you believe that the city should do a better job of mediating development planning between developers AND residents. Let's PLAN MIDDLETON BETTER!

University Avenue is busy enough. Children have to cross University to get to the high school, library, pool, Kromrey, downtown, and more. To plan a development that would increase traffic at such a rate is short sighted and unfair to the people of this city.
You are destroying the the back yards of the people who live on the South side of Franklin Ave. (three Story Max) Driveway should be EAST of median to allow for left turn. If this causes traffic problems, Then it should NOT be allowed to go forward. Please think of the EXISTING residents.
The development of a project of this size is incongruent with the neighborhood and I oppose it. Traffic is already heavy in the area and the plan does not include sufficient parking for so many units. Please listen and respond more effectively to the concerns of area residents. Thank you.
The 4 story building seems to tall for this area. Also, sounds that very few of the 39 units would be eligible for workforce housing. Middleton needs more afforable housing/ apts. not just a few more.
This building is simply too large for the area. All other buildings in this region are 1 or 2 stories tall, and adding such a large building will dramatically change the feel of the neighborhood. Moreover, the families on Franklin Ave *do not* want such a large building in their backyard, and their voices should be heard.
Middleton needs to show more respect for the quality of life of long term residents, not shove them aside in favor of developers, whose goal is to make money for themselves.

I agree with the development and improvement of the proposed lots, but the apartment building will be disruptive aesthetically and functionally to the surrounding neighborhood. Let's see alternate designs.
