Petition to release the NYS Volunteer Firefighters and EMS Recruitment & Retention Funds
Generous taxpayers in NYS voluntarily contribute an extra donation on their NYS tax returns to fund recruitment and retention projects for fire and ems agencies.
But the State has been collecting the donations to the tune of $200,000 and not opening the funding opportunity; just collecting the interest! In Nassau County in 2012 for instance, three fire departments teamed up to share $25,000 to purchase LED sign boards to inform the residents of how to become volunteer fire and ems workers. That's the kind of funding and cooperation was envisioned when they made the program. No one in NYS is donating their money for NYS to keep it!!!
JSK Inc is NYS's largest fire grant writers, we want the state to allow these fire and ems agencies to apply for the funding and spend the money to get volunteers on the rolls, keep taxes down, and keep our economy going by supporting local businesses with donated grant funds.

My local dept is struggling to get anyone new through the door and we really need those tax funds for recruitment. Stop holding onto money that isnt yours albany!
