It is very telling that a newer officer on the Hopkinton PD was willing to speak up here. That officer still works for the Chief who, no doubt, is trying to avoid the discomfort of having to face a popular Sgt. Brennan again at work, one whom other officers will follow because they know that he is there for all the right reasons, handles everyone with compassion, is the one over at the PD whom we would want our own children to report misconduct or abuse to, is the one (at Hop PD) who should be teaching younger cops who to handle child abuse cases and their fragile victims, has a level of integrity that the rest of us should strive for, has vast experience on a myriad of investigations, and prefers to follow his oath than cow-tow to politics and favors. To that brave officer, Nicholas Saletnik, I say: Sgt. Brennan is the best cop this Town has. No contest. But you, sir, appear to be the second best. What a leader you will be! Thank you for having the stones to back up whats right instead of cowardly pushing your Chiefs agenda. No doubt youll get crap for that. Probably only from those who are cowards or who are hoping to benefit in some quid-pro-quo way for having backed the Chief and his child abusing BFF. Dont you fret, sir, about any negative blowback for having a spine. Karma has a funny way of showing up when you least expect it. And those of us reading your comment here certainly are relieved to know that there is at least one other cop on the local force who will have a victims back...even if it means having to take down one of his or her own and having to take on an entirely rigged Town government.

I highly encourage the Select Board to immediately reinstate Sergeant Timothy Brennan to active duty. The seven months of administrative leave is more than enough consequence for a nuanced infraction of the department policy. Our town should feel lucky to have a long-tenured dedicated employee like Sergeant Brennan. Town citizens, current town employees and prospective town employees are all watching closely to see how the Select Board treats Sergeant Brennan.

Tim should be commended. Tim Brennan supported the victim and advised the victim. He may deserve a reprimand for not following policy, but he does not deserve an extreme punishment of termination. He is an asset to this town, to our students and to so many organizations. Tim has been at countless Scouting events supporting families of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts through the years. He has trained our daughter and so many others in RAD (Rape Aggression Defense). It is so reassuring to see Tim at school events, sporting events, and community events. Clearly he is a trusted member of this community who students and adults feel they can confide in, hence the reason he is facing this situation.
With all that is going on in the world, school shootings, violence, mental health issues, our community and students deserve to have a seasoned, well known, trusted Sergeant they can turn to and know they have a confident who will help them through challenging life situations.

Tim is a man of high character and a pillar in the community. How can we turn our backs on him now? The punishment does not fit the crime, and we need people like Sgt. Brennan, now than ever.

Tim is an honest man and this was a very difficult situation. Being out of work for this long is punishment enough for a policy violation. Reinstate Tim. It is the best solution for the Town.
