We are Cambridge/Edexcel students from the Middle East asking the respective board- CAIE, Edexcel, AQA, to reconsider requiring students in our region to sit the May/June 2026 examinations under the current circumstances.

Students across United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iran, Palestine, and Iraq are living in a region affected by ongoing conflict, instability, and geopolitical tension. Airspace restrictions, travel disruptions, and constant uncertainty are affecting daily life across the region.

Even for those not in areas directly impacted by violence, the atmosphere of anxiety, fear, and distraction makes it extremely difficult to prepare for one of the most demanding academic programs in the world. GCSE/A Level exams are already highly stressful, and expecting students in our region to perform at their best under these conditions places them at a clear disadvantage compared to students in more stable environments.

The issue is not simply whether exams can physically take place, but whether students can realistically prepare for them at the level required. Many students are struggling to focus on studying because of constant stress, safety concerns, and regional instability.

We are not necessarily asking for the May/June 2026 exams to be cancelled worldwide. We are asking the British boards to recognize that students in the Middle East are not working under normal conditions. Fair alternatives could include a non-exam route based on coursework, internal assessments, and predicted grades, adjusted grade boundaries, or region-specific policies for affected countries.

We ask the respective British Curriculum boar to uphold these values by reconsidering the May 2026 examinations for students in the Middle East and implementing fair alternatives that reflect the reality we are facing.

It is unethical and crazy to make students sit these exams, their online learning is not going to prepare them as the quality is low and the support they need is not being met. They are psychologically impacted by this conflict and this needs to be given consideration

it's deeply hurtful that we have to sit these exams in these tedious times. we should have the freedom to spend such moments with no stress and lessened workload. we are at a grave disadvantage to the UK. these exams should be cancelled, much like the others have been.

It’s really hard to focus and study with constant stress with ongoing bombing threats. If we sit these exams now we won’t get the grades that we deserve and we know that we are capable of. Not to mention the stress during the exam if alerts and bombs go off

Due to the current horrific circumstances, first of all I’m in no mental state to sit these exams, secondly I am not going to jeopardise my safety to complete these exams. I believe that we should be assessed alternatively such as through classwork, coursework and past exams.

I have been struggling to get much sleep and revise properly for the A level exams, it is really stressful trying to study for A levels while I am not feeling any sense of security and waking in the middle of the night because of missiles and alerts.
