We, the undersigned parents, students, and residents of Loudoun County Virginia, respectfully request for students and staff of the Loudoun County Public School system be allowed the opportunity to observe a 17 minute moment of silence at 10am on March 14, 2018 in memory of those who have lost their lives in acts of school violence across our nation. We request a memorandum of such from the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and Loudoun County School Board permitting principals to work with their corresponding Student Council Association members to provide direction for student participation.

We understand and appreciate the LCPS position on student walkouts and do not view this event as an insubordinate or defiant gesture on behalf of those wishing to participate. We feel that with appropriate planning and coordination between school staff and SCA’s, the county can provide a safe environment for our students to express a shared grief, remembrance, unification and solidarity with their peers.

We view participation in this activity as not being any more disruptive to the normal school day as pep rallies, fire drills, lock-down drills or planned historical remembrances, such as the February 27th 11am-12:30pm Black History Month assembly.
