The school board dropped the multi-track proposal today. It was a long road to get here but I am relieved we finally reached the finish line. Stay vigilant just in case they decide to try this again down the line.

Because the proposed multi-track scheduling at Mills Park Middle School threatens to undermine education quality, degrade quality of life for families, harm incomes and professional opportunities for working parents, degrade professional development for teachers, and repel the best applicants for teaching positions, we, the undersigned, strongly oppose the multi-track proposal.

Reaching this level of visibility takes a heavy toll but I am grateful to see that so many of you understand the stakes for our families. The exhaustion is lingering yet I feel a renewed sense of purpose knowing we are not alone in this fight.

Ed - Signing the petition does not say that is necessarily the answer - their are other alternatives to making Mills Park Year Round. Just also keep in mind our taxes are the lowest in the area.
Strongly oppose any changes to mills park school.. It Should remain traditional
In addition, the problem is putting one family on two different school schedules (not just year round but year round and traditional) which causes a loss of income when people have to quit jobs to care for one child or another out of school 6 months of the year because of the different schedules. Or they have to pay for additional childcare because of the additional time out of school for one child or the other.
Yes, definitely I am. Our taxes are very low here and the additional taxes I would pay are far less than the money i am losing because I can't work part time with one child or another out of school 6 months of the year when we are put on two different school schedules. For working parents the taxes would be less than the additional childcare costs they are incurring with children on two different school schedules.
Maybe we need to give the builders fines for eating up this whole area with homes---start a fund for a new school----why did MPE change from YR to traditional in 2010---I was in private school then?... Taxes will go up YR and traditional so you can't use that as an argument anymore. Your husband John was quoted in the news as saying he doesn't want YR because he won't have a vacation?? ...again let's focus on the student level of learning and progress of year round education of our children

I know you are personally opposed, that's fine...statistically can you back up this information? Is it a known fact that year round causes lower incomes, etc?

If it came to that, I would be absolutely fine with raising our taxes in order to provide my kids with the educational situation they need and not put my family on a split calendar.
