This is one of many areas where sensational headlines are harmful to the health of society at large. Normalising breastfeeding will improve breastfeeding rates and durations with physical and mental health benefits. We are largely a lot less healthy than we should be in both respects and any potential improvements should be welcomed. I see so many articles making out that breastfeeding mums are a freak show, that breastfeeding is good but only under certain conditions. This attitude is harmful for all women and, I believe intentionally, fuels the so-called mummy wars. As journalists, you are in privileged position of influence. Why not use it for positivity, rather than negativity - there's already more than enough of that in the world.
We need to normalise breastfeeding. Our view of breasts is completely warped. So it's ok to expose your breasts in a sheer blouse but cover up to feed a baby?! Definitely important to sign this petition and raise awareness!
I thought babies were fed with bottles when I was growing up. Why had I only ever seen one woman breastfeeding until I was 20. The media have a responsibility to show breastfeeding without hype.
Humans evolved to learn to breastfeed in a social group having seen other women breastfeed. New Mums in our modern world hardly see anyone breastfeeding before they have their own child and that means trying to learn breastfeed on their own is that much harder. Let's help get breastfeeding seen by millions and regarded as normal and try to recreate that supportive social group with a little help from 21st century broadcasting technology.
Please consider the impact on your reporting, negative stories can influence women who already feel self concious about feeding in public.
It's time to desexualise breastfeeding, and praise its benefits.

The media has done so much damage to the reputation of public breastfeeding and full term breastfeeding. It's time they used their power responsibly.
This is one of many areas where sensational headlines are harmful to the health of society at large. Normalising breastfeeding will improve breastfeeding rates and durations with physical and mental health benefits.
